Where Can I Buy Unscented Ammonia?

Do you know any stores in Canada that sell unscented ammonia? I got a new tank and want to cycle it. I checked 5 stores, but they only had lemon scented stuff.

You can go to the cleaner section of Safeway.. that is where I got mine.

Depending on were you are in Canada, Safeway and A&P carry pure unscented ammoina in there cleaning sections.

Just be sure to double check the label as they both also carry sented ammoina with additives I can't pronounce !

I looked those stores up and I couldn't find them near my place. Are there any popular stores that would have it like Giant Tiger, Loblaws, Costco, Food Basics, etc? We've contacted like 10 different stores but none have it.

Do you have Dollar Stores in Canada or ACE hardwares. Ace carries an industrial strength pure ammonia. I got mine at the Dollar Store in the US but don't know if you have one there.

If all else fails, get some raw shrimp, put in a nylon stocking and anchor it to the bottom of the tank with a rock. It rots and causes ammonia. A piece of dead fish will also work in the same manner. However, it may stick up your place a bit so keep a lid on the tank and keep that stuff under water.

After a week, you may have to add another piece of dead fish or shrimp to keep that ammonia going. I'm sure it's not the most pleasant but if you are looking to other alternatives, that would be one.

The other would be to get a bacteria booster and add your fish slowly.

You could also throw in a bunch of fish food, it will rot and produce ammonia as well, it will be slower than the shrimp.

BTW..........there is no unscented ammonia to start with.

There is pure ammonia or there is ammonia with lemon scents and/or detergent for household cleaning. You're not supposed to be looking for "unscented ammonia" but instead, "Pure ammonia".
