I have found a way to get rid of some of my convict fry, well 6 anyway LOL
I am giving 6 to the special education unit at the highschool I work at, it is a unit for slow learning students. As the fry are only about 8 weeks old, they are still only about 5mm long, today I put some of the bio stuff I use to speed up cycling in there tank, and gave them a profile on convicts, the teachers reckon it will be great for the students, as they have another community tank, but this will be an opertunity for them to see the fish grow and eventually breed, they are talking of getting the students to do a journel on the progress and making the whole exercise a fun learning experience for the kids.

FANTASTIC idea!
I'd love to set one up in my classroom as well - I'm thinking a 10g with a bunch of shrimp just for fun but I'm not there all week, plus then there's the long vacations.... I"d be worried about what it would look like after a week out over Christmas? LOL

Are you a teacher or student?
I had talked to the teacher about this problem, when I thought of the idea, over the holidays he said he comes in at least once a week to feed, I said these fry was used to being fed twice a day, and he would have to slowly reduce that, being so small they will only be in a small tank for a while, and with 2 weeks school holidays coming up here soon, he has said he will take them home for that period of time, I really think he will do the right thing, as I see him most day's, and he knows how much I want my babies cared for LOL.
I reckon others should follow suit here, it is a chance to get rid of a few young fry, and help out those less fortunate, and as you regular members know, I am all for that sort of thing:thumb:

Well the possibility is there, throw the idea around the staffroom, maybe you could get the support to help to get a similar thing going there, if your headmaster/principle or whatever you call the boss over there, lol, is as aproachable as our's, he may even help get it off the ground.
I will try to keep posted about how things go for our school:thumb:

Delivered the six convict fry to the kids on Tuesday, checked with the teacher today how it was going, the kids are wrapped, they are going to keep a log on there progress, growth rate etc, I suggested taping a dressmakers measuring tape across front of tank for easy measuring, they agreed.
I might even get a copy of there log down the track, and put it on here somehow.
It makes me happy when I can make someone else happy:thumb:
