Taken from another post I made about Gold Gouramis which are the same species and hence breed the same way.
Gold gouramis are not to hard to breed but you have to keep a close eye on your pair as the male might become very rough with the female. First make sure that your mle and female is in breeding condition by feeding them a good and varied diet. you should than put the male and femle in a densely planted tank with low water levels 4-6 inches and a sligtly higher temperture than usuall. Keep water circulation to a minimum. The male should than hopefully start building a bubble nest where the fish spawn.
The fry are very small and need small food such as infusoria the first period of their life.

The female as soon as the spawning is completed. The male is best left in until the fry becomes free swimming when he is removed.

Might depend on how high your aquarium water level usually are.

Ok. I usually have 2 ft or more in my tanks and have found that lowering the water help.

I got that. What I meant was that you don't have to lower the water level if you for example like you have 12 inches hight tanks but that it helps if one have higher tanks than that.

might. try in 35 gallon tanks, but always had bad luck, in that size tank. 10 or 12 gallon tanks work best for me.

IS there a better chance my male BG will breed with the female BG or is there an equal chance among colours?

I actually can't say for sure but I think he would breed with whichever of the females.

William and others, I keep my two large pair in one tank. From the discussion, I wondeer if mine would breed. I have a separator between them and both have tried pushing the seperator. My ultimate question is, if I wanted them to breed, can I do that in the same tank they are now kept?

if you are sure you have a pair(male and female) you should be able to follow the prior directions and be sucessful. You will need another tank to move the parent fish into after the fry become free swimming. Mom should be removed after eggs are layed and Dad later.

Thanks, NorthernBoy. Yea, I'm sure about their sexes. It is good to know that it is possible to do that - for some reason, I always believe that gouramies would only breed in earthern ponds. Now that I will be able to breed them in tanks - that sounds good. You see, my kid is only 3 yrs old - I want to do this with him when the time comes. Getting another tank wouldn't be a problem.

Thanks. But... HAPPY BIRTHDAY, mate! I feel good to be able to wish this to a guy on the other side of the world.
About the male gouramy of mine - we just moved into a new house (yea. this is it, this is where all the breeding's gonna happen). My tank, and the stand ends up to be about 6 feet (that's pretty high - you see, I'm only just over 5'). I got the tank from a shop that was closing down - good price, in USD it was about 52 dollars. While transferring him, somehow he slipped, and yes, he made a 6 feet fall. Damn, I was about to loose him, blood on the floor. He survived the fall and the injuries. In my small city, there's nobody who'll be treating injured fish. I think I was very-very lucky and he is some bloody tough bloke.
You have a nice day, NorthernBoy.

Thanks, heaps, 100gw mate. He survived all right. The new house is just fine, plenty of room for more tanks (yea, yea... depends on what my wife says :hmm3grin2orange:). Well I think, very soon, I'll set up a guppy tank that she's been dreaming to have. Seems like I'll have to jump forum more often now.

right now my male opaline is building a bubble nest over a gold. it isn't hard to breed the different color varieties, however... gouramis tend to loose their color quickly through captive breeding (hence the white or platinum gourami) most gouramis are 2nd generations and are the result of breeding wild cuaght gouramis. unfortunantly gouramis aren't like angels, discuss, guppies, swordtails, bettas, ect.... breeding different color varieties don't ussually amount in much. i am trying to selectivly breed different varieties over a period of time hoping to over come the loss in color, but i'm just too hopefull that one day we will have a gold and blue stripped two spot gourami.
