I have an Aqueon 20 on a 10 gallon tank. Currently it's stocked with a single male betta, and the current is a little much for him. I have a stump that is partially slowing the current, but as I'm going to be adding some new inhabitants, I want to rearrange the layout, and will need something else to diffuse the current. What's the best way to do this?

I have some plants (I use plastic, but real might work too) on from of my filter in my betta tank to keep the currents low for my bettas, and everything has been fine so far. You can also do this with other peices of decor. If that doesnt work, than you can try putting a sponge in the intake tube, which should slow the flow down. Also make sure you have your aqua clear set on the lowest flow (with the intake tube).
Good Luck!!

I've had the same problem with a AC30 on my 10 gallon tank. I found that putting on a flow diverter worked really well for me (link below)

I use this on all my AC filters now. No more problems with current in the tank and there is no loss of filter flow rate

I've modified filters to slow the current: [Only Registered Users Can See Links.]
You could also try jamming a filter sponge into the output.

I found that using plastic canvas to slow down the current is very effective. Just cut a piece and fit it on the filter so that the water flows over it.

I use the same thing as Cliff and it works great. My issue was more with the plants getting pushed down than with the fish. It does the job and doesn't affect your filtration.

Thanks a lot. I'm thinking about trying some floating plants (dwarf water lettuce) and corralling them to the side of the tank with the filter output. Would this do anything to help?

I actually put the plastic canvas in place to keep the Amazon frogbit from getting pushed under the surface by the filter outflow. IME floating plants don't divert the flow much, but water lettuce might if the plants are large enough.

I did the same thing as cliff did. Works extremely well, and it only costs about a buck.
