Sore on Koi

Good thing you urged me to OT these guys. One has a sore on his side.

What should I use to treat it? I know it's bad to say- but I only on hand have is aquarium salt, Wardley Ick Away and Jungle Fungus Clear tank buddies.

The Fungus Clear stuff says it is for fungus and bacteria related conditions. They are those little fizz tabs.

They are now eating wheat germ pellets from Hikari. It is the best stuff I have.

Clean water and time will be the best medecine. Do ferequent water changes. Keep an eye on the fish, if it starts to fungus then treat that acordingly.

Koi are also able to contract the Koi herpes virus (KHV) I dont suppose its that common, but body rot is one of the symptoms

KHV, like I said in your other post, is no joke. If it is in fact KHV you will need to sterilize everything in the tank, destroy all the livestock, throw away anything that cannot be sterilized, and start all over. If you use the same net for multiple tanks, you probably have transferred it to the other tanks. I've seen tens of thousands of dollars worth of koi get euthenized due to one mistake with QT.

Hopefully its just a sore and heals up on its own...lol

Thanks. It seems to be going away actually. I've been doing daily 40 to 50 % water changes, with good food and clean water it is almost gone. Missing a few scales but other than that- just a little red place where it had been.

I did throw a little aquarium salt in the water after the water changes. Perhaps that helped too.
