We have a new tank and placed 4 guppies and 4 neons in it yesterday (after letting the water run with the filter for 3 days). This morning one of the guppies had died but the rest of the fish are doing well. Do goldfish do well with guppies and neons?

How big is your tank, what filtration, and did you cycle it?

goldfish and neons cannot be together. goldfish are coldwater and neons and guppies are tropical, plus neons may nip the guppys fins

great thanks for the help. It's a 10 gallon tank and the girl at the store said rule of thumb is for every inch of fish you need a gallon of water. I used a Whisper filter system.

dxf, forget about the one inch of fish per gallon. Different fish have very different space requirements. For example, to keep oscars, they need at least 50 gallons each.

just to let you if you didn't cycle your tank plan on the rest of the fish maybe dieing.

your about at a 10g's stock limit already, but 4 corys shouldn't hurt.

The 1" rule is pure BS. I cant put a 10" oscar in a 10g, it would die and not be able to move. Theres alot more to fish that length. a 4" round goldfish would need a 20g to itself due to its weight. The only way that rule applies is for small fish like tetras
