Bit of history, bought a 4ft tank from a friend of the family a few weeks ago. It included everything, stand, hood, light, filter, air pump, heater, etc.

Anyway, set it up to start cycling and the filter leaked like a sieve. So ordered in a part which arrived today (I've been using my old, smaller filter in the time being). $44 AU for gasket seal, basically an "o" ring. $15 AU for new tubes/hoses and fittings. Okay, I'm set to go.

Stupid thing STILL leaks like a sieve!!!! Check all the other bits, two small "O" rings missing. Okay, no hassle, I have those in my spare parts. Put them on, go to lock the valves back into place and the locking arm snaps off.

So another $50 AU to get the parts I need. ARGH!! :18:

The filter is worth $300 AU new so I guess it's worth it in parts, but it's just so frustrating!!!!! I really feel like screaming!!

The only lucky thing about all of this is that I had a bucket under it each time I turned it on so it didn't flood the house. LOL!!

Yeah, that can be an issue with canister filters. You should get some aquarium safe treatment for the seals. This will help the seals keep a good fit and thus do their intended jobs.

What kind of filter is it?

BTW, we ALL have our moments and want to scream.

It's an Eheim Professional 2224.

Oh well, it's Friday night here so I'm going to grab a cuppa and relax for a bit. :)
