Ok so i found these poor little guys in cramped situations like the first photo and they are now in conditions like this 2nd photo, i can go back and get as many females or males as i want and i kind of feel bad for the little guys, 40 in a 30 gallon tank, kind of disappointing to leave some behind but i cant take em all no matter how much i wanted too, so it also looks like the new tank is going to be a cichlid tank aswell woohoo

Keep the water clean and damaged fins should grow back quickly.
Looks like they spawned and were left to grow out in the tank. I have a similar crunch in the process with cutteri, currently about 50 or so 2" juvies in a 29. They won't be there much longer though, some will be going to the lfs shortly:

Then there are the ~200 oblongum fry in another 29. I'll be setting up another 55 for growout as soon as I get time, and a fair number of them will be food for my Carapo and zebra knife fish. The cutteri have mostly grown large enough to be off the menu:

I have Najas indica in most of my tanks to help keep nitrates down between partial water changes. The fish are crowded, but the water is clean and they're not matue enough to fight yet.

That isn't much fin damage, certainly nothing to worry about for an otherwise healthy fish. My Synodontis petricola's did worse than that, a couple were missing barbels as well as having almost no fins left. A couple weeks after I moved the chewed up fish to another tank they were good as new, and rehomed shortly after that.

after looking a little closer i figured it wasn't too bad, im going to go to LFS today to get some fert for the plants Flourish i think sarkazmo said and going to pick up some flat rock to build some caves for them.
i always wanted some convicts as i heard about their personalities but was shocked this morning when i put my hand in to re-bury a plant they obviously wanted moved when the big guy started swimming against my arm and pecking at me, i went to pet him and he just stayed there lapping it up. very wierd creature

Cichlids all have personality! Some more then thers!
Nice looking cons!thumbs2:
Clean water is all that mildly nipped fins need to heal. When its real bad melafix will help.

Can we check the date on threads before we post on them, i posted this a long time ago.
Also i completely agree with Ray, all cichlids have personality, not just because they have eggs or fry because they didn't!!, i also have a female Flowerhorn that wants to kill me thats one hell of a personality!!
