One day I caught some small fish at my grandparents pond, and as I looked at them closely I saw they were feeder guppies. I got some mommies and they had babies in my tank. 3 died and now I have one little female feeder guppy in 1 of my tanks. When it is mature enough could I breed it with a really pretty male guppy? I've heard that feeder guppies have small batches of fry. Also , I take into consideration that some of the babies will be gray but I was hoping that since there is no color in the mom's side that the one's that do have color will have the father's color so I can have little pretty guppy replicas! Will this work or does it even have a chance to work?

No reason why it would not work. Wild type males do have color they just lack the giant tails and fins.

The schools of wild guppies here often have some very beautiful individuals in them. The frequency increases as you get closer to the mountains. Often, you can come across some isolated mountain pools with the most beautiful specimens. The genes are there, you just have to keep trying till you get results you like.

Where do your grandparent's live? What you have may actually be a species of mosquito fish.

Didn't think of moquitoe fish because I thought they were the same as guppies. But, they're all really closely related right? Grandparents live in north texas. I'm not area specific because there are bad people out there that could see this and come get me, I'm only 12. But I don't think you guys are bad people.

One thing to be aware of is that mosquitofish are often reputed to be more aggressive than guppies, though I am not sure by how much, or if a roomy tank with lots of hides would help with that.

I am not sure if they are native to your locale, but they are often introduced as non-native pest control to control mosquito populations (thus the name).

They are most mosquito fish then. I haven't heard of any guppy x mosquito fish crosses so it's probably not possible.
