Does anyone know of a good place to buy a new or used tank 50 gallons or larger for a cheap price?

Yes. Petco has a sale going on right now $1 per gallon. They sell 55 gallons not 50 gallons. But you could buy a new 55 gallon for only $55. Yes that is a very good deal. http://www.petco.com/Fish-Home.aspx There is more info about the sale towards the middle of the page.

If you are getting this tank for the tinfoil barbs you have, I would invest in a tank at least 70 gallons or larger.

Craigslist and similar sites are great places to find good deals.

I was wondering around my local Meijers pet section the other day and noticed their tanks seemed relatively low priced. they had Tetra brand 29 gallons for $34 about $60 cheaper than their 29 gallon kit. They did not have any 55's by themselves, but their kits were about $130.00 I think, so the tank on it's own might be under $100, dunno for sure though.

Also, craigslist has awesome deals on big tanks if you wait long enough. Local yard sales and auctions can also provide a good deal, as most people attending them are not looking for fish supplies.

Try Glasscages.com. They may not have the smaller ''large'' tanks, but they definitely go 40+ all the way up to 500 if I remember correctly. Also, as suggested already, Petco does the dollar for gallon sale and it is a GREAT deal. Also mentioned, craigslist is a great place to look. :22:

I have found very reasonable prices at PetSuppliesPlus on tanks. I buy just the tank and add my own filters and heaters. The kits are good for a fast start up tank, tho, and you can always upgrade as you go.

I have only bought two tanks, both 29's, from Meijers and both ended up leaking within a year. Not sure why but I almost weakened and got another one there yesterday but am a little gun-shy of their tanks now. SAVE YOUR RECEIPT.

If you see Aqueon tanks anywhere, those were All Glass. The brand name has just changed.

Here's some sizes available in Aqueons. You may have to order what you want from a fish store.
