Pictus pimelodus- or pictus catfish. They are very active, eat alot, and get decently large. He needs a big tank. Very big, and will knock over your decor on occasion.

You will need two filters for the 55 and both large ones like Emperor 400's, 350 Penquins, or 100 AquaClears.

What he described is a spotted pictus/pimelodus catfish.
The Whisper 5-15 only handles about 5 gallons usually. The 55 will need a lot of filtration. I highly suggest a canister. The Fluval 405 would be my top pick for that, preferably in addition to a HOB. Remember that whatever a filter claims it can handle needs to be cut in half. Or if the filter gives a range, go with the lower number.

Pictus cat and on your 30g, try to get a 40 g filter. I would go with the 400 emperor or the 350 penguin as your filter on your 55.
