Really odd question.
I found someone who has a large fluorescent light that they said is strong enough to grow weed and thats what its mainly used for. Theyre selling it for 25$ too.
Would something that strong be good for the salt tank or a planted tank?

First of all, you shouldnt be dealing with someone who grows weed.
Second of all, coral and plant needs differ GREATLY from eachother.

I would think that you would need a much more intense higher frequency light to penetrate the water. Grow bulbs for plants, even ones used to grow *cough* production plants generally won't penetrate the water well enough for the stuff in it. And I'm sure that the coral bulbs are probably more in tune with what wave lengths of light the corals like as they are probably more picky than your average, or not-so-average plant *cough*

LOL I grow bonsai's and my mother was a certified Master Gardener in both Florida and Alaska. Some of that information got rubbed off on me.
Though I do have to admit I have bought slightly used lighting a week or two after a few police raids. The bulbs always smelt funny though.=\

When our drum instructor bought a house, he noticed that only one room in the house had a drop in ceiling. So he took a peek, and there were bongs, and grow lights in the false ceiling. There were also 6 inch wood screws screwing the windows shut, and then they used a high tourque wrench and broke the heads off, so you couldnt open the window in a raid. Kinda funny.

You ever see the thawed lawn syndrom?
Imagine this; Mid December, snow up to your eyballs, except for this one particular backyard which was surprising free of snow, though it was obvious no one every shovelled the snow away.
Undergrown greenhouse. So much heat and lighting down there it melted the snow off the ground above.
Alaskans get REALLY bored.
