I purchased a 6 gallon eclipse kit yesterday that came with everything I needed but the following which I purchased seperately: 50W heater, thermometer, NH3 gauge, to live plants, a battleship and gravel. I rinsed everything off before setting up and added 5 gallons of distilled water to the tank and planted the live plants. The lady at the pet store suggested the following chemicals/liquids but I do not really know what they are so any help woudl be gerat in explaining what they are and how they will help me with my setup. Nourish, Cycle and Prime. What are they!?

My temp is consitently at 80 degrees and the NH3 level reads toxic (.40) ...its been running for about 12 hours now.

How do I get the cycle started!? Do I use the Cycle liquid!? (I dont have any fish in yet)

Thanks for your help!

Read how to cycle on this webpage:

The VAST majority of us here at A.C. dont think the product "cycle" does squat. Nourish, i belive, is for the live plants, and i dont know what the prime is.

Prime is the water conditioner to remove chlorine.....(you can use any dechlorinator) and cycle is an aid in cycling which generally doesn't do anything. What I would do in your case and with a small tank, would get 3 feeder goldfish and let them cycle the tank for you. If you wish to not use the goldfish, you could get some danio's that are a good cycling fish.

With this small of a tank and with all that you already have in there, you will not be able to have much. One betta or maybe just some neon's but add neither until you get your cycle.

Go with a fishless cycle but I would ditch the cycle product. As said before, most of us don't think it does anything.
