Currently I am cycling my 72 gal bowfront. Water has been going for about a week now. I know it will need alot longer but what is the test kit everyone is using. Also, I need my ammonia and nitrates at 0 right? and my nitrites at 5 or 10?

API freshwater master test kit. Has ammonia, nitrite nitrate and ph test its.

Sometimes its cheaper online even with shipping.

You are right about 0/0/some, but only if there are fish or another source of ammonia.

Walmart has a good price on the API master test kit online only, they don't carry it in stores. Less than $18 and shipping for .97 cents.

your tank is cycled when your ammonia and nitRITES are at 0 and you are showing some nitRATES.

Go for the API test kit. Very easy to use.

Walmart.com has 'master test kits' online for like, 17.99. That is alot cheaper than it is around here (usually runs about $30 at Petsmart or the LFS unless they are having a sale).

... but I recommend the API Master Kit as well. :P

i just suggest u don't get test strips. I did and they suck, liquid kits are way easier to read, and from what i can tell more reliable as well. (first strip i used didn't work at all)

I know this is an old thread, but I ordered my test kit off of Walmart and it arrived to my house in 1 day and only cost .97 to ship! Thanks Gadget for this "hookup". thumbs2:
