I unplugged my AC 70 power filter from the wall because I am moving it onto my 55g. Anyway, I unplugged it, carried it over to the 55g and plugged it back in and it won't make a sound. Has anyone dealt with this before or know what can be done about it? I checked out hagen's website and it seemed like I could order any part BUT the motor. The filter is not even a year old. Maybe 5 months.

Try a dif outlet maybe. I have had one ac70 for over 10 yrs. and no trouble at all. Sometimes the impeller will stick and I need to give it a small turn to free it up.

Funny you should mention this, my 2 month old Hagen fluval U2 did the same to me yesterday when I unplugged it for a WC.
I bought an Enheim instead as I wouldn't trust a replacement.
Have you had it apart to check the impellor isn't surrounded it crap yet?

I tried the different outlet, but no luck. Tomorrow night when I get an hour of free time finally, I will inspect the impeller. Thanks guys.

Yes, I've had that happen a couple of times. On one I had to mess with the wire and it started. And the other I just took the motor apart to find the impeller was stuck with sand and hair and crap.
Motors can be bought at foster and smith for like $17. it's in the parts part.

I was just reading about this the other day. Try removing the impeller and clean it.

Good suggestions here. A motor does not die just by unplugging and plugging a filter back in. Sounds as the tubes are not properly seeded or the impeller needs a kick to get it going.

Mine did the same thing after unplugging it to replace some media. I thought my motor needed to be replaced too, but before I contacted hagen I rinsed the impeller and motor out really well, and it worked after that.

thanks for the suggestions everyone. I've been swamped at work and actually haven't been to my home in 2 days. I will play with this all weekend.

Great suggestions guys. I just tinkered with the impeller with my finger for a few seconds. Plugged in the power cord and just like that, the filter started right up. All is well. Thank you!

Does this mean the checks are in the mail?

Next time you shut it off for maintenance, make sure you take off the motor, pull out the impeller and clean out the hole with a Q-tip. This should avoid any future problems. Also rinse out any other build up in the filter container.

This happens to mine a lot. truthfully, when mine does it I bang it against the wall really hard while it is plugged. a lot of time the motor just gets stuck and it jsut needs a hard hit to get it back on.

I did this on my AC50 when I was cleaning it for the first time and it hasn't run right since. It's much louder than any other AC filter I have and its been a year since i cleaned it with a q -tip. So i am reluctant to clean it again in fear of causing the filter to run loudly.

Interesting.... my AC50 is still very quiet. But I don't have another AC filter to compare it to. Maybe something is stuck on or under the impeller making it off balance. I think the only moving part is the impeller itself.
