An old man I know keeps a breeding pair of snapping turtles in his small pond. It's fenced off and surrounded by lush thick garden. Snappers have laid their eggs in the corner of the enclosure (same place last 3 years now). We covered the eggs with a screen to keep out predators and to keep the babies from walking off. They hatch early october.

I show off the pond in this thread:

Very cool, what does he do with the babies?

They are given to responsible hobbyists, or released back into the wild. Snapping turtles are still hunted for their meat around here, and it's sad to see so many big turtles being taken from their habitats.

That's pretty cool that he bothers to keep them and breed them.
