View Full Version : why is my betta so weird?

hes been acting this way all his life that ive had him, so about 6 months. Hes in the 5g planted alone, and he always likes to lay under the mossball most of the time, and just sleep there or something. If i come to the tank, he comes up for food and everything, but he just lays by the mossball. Hes definitely not sick or anything, and i feed very sparsely, 3 pellets every 3-4 days. Is this just weird behavior?

i had 4 white clouds with him, but they "mysteriously" disappeared.

Is the tank densly planted?
What's the temp?
Where is the tank located?

I'd bet he's just a little bored, or the water is a little cooler than he likes...so he just kinda lays around. You could try upping the temp a few degrees and see if there is any change.

Maybe his weirdness rubs off from you?

lol, hes weirder than me! he has 73f temp, no heater since its a small tank, super planted tank, and its on a desk. the "aliens" would probably take any other fish i add

you know, i just thought of it, maybe hes pretty old and hes on his last leg. He came up once today, but went right back down. wonder how old he is?

73 might be a little low. I wonder if he'd feel peppier if you put a heater in there and warmed him up to around 80. I've heard that they do like their water on the warm side. Maybe in his old age he's not able to handle the cooler water. I have a pretty old betta I'm guessing cuz his body is like 3.5 inches and I've had him already for a year and a half. He's definitely a slower swimmer than my baby but he still comes to see me whenever I am near the tank, gobbles up his 3 pellets a day very easily and blows bubble nests that fill up a good portion of one corner of the 5g tank he's in.

Agreed with the water temps. I think he'll liven up with warmer temps. Or maybe he's just an old man and is lounging around.

i feed my male betta in its betta tank 5 pellets each day.

its been living for almost 4 years( very old )

it act like that too, it is normal i think. it just bored. bettas are suppose to be boring.

IF YOU WANT IT TO BE NOT BORING, PUT ANOTHER MALE IN IT SO IT GETS EXCITING. FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT

I'm hoping that the whole adding another male was a joke. Horribly bad idea, they will fight to the death. If you want to see fish fight to the death you don't belong here.

They say that pets sometimes mimic there owners, so your betta acting weird may have something to do with that:wink2:

Only kidding Cocoa, but you opened yourself up to that one, and I could not help myself:hmm3grin2orange:

LOL! Its so true, though. Cocoa breeds rainbow sharks that shouldn't breed, doesn't ever need to maintain his canisters. Cocoa rocks. In an odd kind of way. Seriously though, cocoa keeps great fish. All of the compliments in the world.

He does sound bored or lonely.
Can you move his tank so it's right next to another tank with some lively inhabitants?

That isnt a good idea/ My aunts betta killed itself because it was next to a fry tank( with fry in it). He would ram himself into the side ofthe tank to reach the fry.

lol, sadly, the betta died. im sure it was old age. i found my black shark chewing on the corpse.

and adding males to males is terrible. you would be lucky if you could get a few females to get along
