well, I want to get some sort of pleco (or suckermouth cat) for my 29g and my current ideas are either a small group of ottos or 1 (maybe 2, if I want to breed) BN plecos, however, one of the other plecos I've seen around my 2 lfs is a butterfly pleco. Has anyone ever had or seen one of these? I've looked and looked but I can't find too much info about them on the internet, only that they stay pretty small and they have some sort of camouflaging abilities.

So anyway, what I'm asking, what's some "need to know" info about these guys? I think their camouflaging ability is really neat, expecially with their rather small size, but that's really all I know about them, and I don't know if they'll even eat that much algae or anything.

Here is a link to some info,

Its an unusual pleco and sure would interesting to keep.It may be expensive as well.
I would do a lot of research on these before getting it.Make sure you do not add too many bottom feeders to that tank. There isn't a lot of floor space for too many.

I doubt they cost a lot. I looked at the tank but neglected to look at the price. Still, they had quite a lot in one tank so although they may be a bit rarer than most, they have quite a bit in stock so I doubt it'd cost too much. Also, compared to their price of 5$ for a single oto and 2o$ for a BN (they rarely have them in stock) I doub't they'd be too much. As long as it's not 300 bucks I'm fine. :hmm3grin2orange:

Another thing is that I'm not too sure if they even WERE butterfly plecos, or at least the camouflaging kind. I only saw them on the front of the glass and they looked sort of like a hillstream loach to me, definitely not like those pics.

Here is another link. This fish does not have the bright colors or the stress color changing abilities, but is very similar.

Don't think that's it. Looks like this, but ventral view. I didn't see any other than ventral view...

That's not a pleco, it's actually a loach. They're known as butterfly hillstream loachs and are priced anywhere from 12-15 dollars. Here's some info on them
