I can understand the concern and think it's commendable that they're doing something about it, but as a person not familiar with saltwater, how many of the corals, inverts and fish on their ban list are strictly wild-caught?

If any of these are being propagated and tank-raised, I don't feel like they need to be banned. I see all corals are under a blanket ban, the fish/invert list seems to be more narrowed down.

Must make it hard on fishkeepers in India :(

I applaud their efforts. Not to sure if they are going about it the right way, but at least they are trying to take action. It really suchs for the local hobbyist that will now have to pay the price for the exports.

well I am a Saltwater hobbyist from India. let me tell u my experience...
Many Indians have reef tank.. well if you consider about 50'000 among 1.3 billion population as many. most tanks have corals in them that has been picked up from Indian shores and reefs ILLEGALLY. Govt bans corals but cannot stop trafficking .. we hobbyists are the sufferers.. We are buying common zooas at the price of a rare brain coral.. when trying to import corals, customs officers are asking exorbitant bribe or destroying the corals saying these are banned! Saltwater hobby is like living under dictatorship here :)
