Last weekend I accidently dropped my Rena smart heater when removing from the tank to clean out the inside. I cracked the lens cover on the light (the one that comes on when the heater cuts in) so I ordered another one from Big Als on-line.

While waiting for the replacement to arrive, I have been using a spare, older glass tube heater I had. When I went to feed the fish this afternoon I noticed the temp was 72F. Everything seemed to be working well last night so the heater must have stopped working some late last night. I bought another heater and have slowly taken the temp back up to 78F over the past 4 hours.

The fish are still lethargic and are not interested in food right now.

What should I do to make sure they are going to be OK

your doing everything right. This is why I hate glass heaters, and never reccomend them to people. Hopefully they will be alright.

Cliff, I am so sorry to hear your temporary heater isn't working...... The fish might need a little more time to adjust to the slow water temperature change.

Thanks guys

I'll give them some more time and water them closely tonight and tomorrow.

I've never had good luck with the glass heaters

having med to large cichlids - I gave up on glass a while back.
They have atendency to break or fail.

Let them recover on their own - they should do fine.
I just went through the opposite - heater on and wouldn't shut off.

Luck!!!!

You know, I was thinking the almost the same thing earlier, it could have been worse and got stuck "on". If I remember correctly, Sailor said that happened to him and he lost a lot of fish.

I guess I did have a little luck here.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck Rhonin.
