weird site at fish store

i saw a tank at one of my not-first-choice lfs today and saw a group of about 5 platties eating stuff off of a marble angelfish, about 4-5 inches. no platties were bothering any of the other angels. what the heck was going on?

maybe there was parasites on the angel and the platys thought it was food maybe? Ive heard of plecos liking to suck on flat fish like angels and discus (not dirty suck, lol, they like to stick to the sides of the fish)

Eating at it's slime coat possibly or it had parasites. Odd.
