View Full Version : how high should a multi tank be?

I was thinking about it today... I know they don't ALWAYS stay in the shells, but the majority of their time is spent on near their shells.

So, would a short tank, say 5-10 inches, be sufficient? I'd rather get a short, long tank to save money and be able to fit more multies if I can.

Note that this would be a custom tank, I could do 48 x 10 x 12 if I wanted, or something strange like 47 x 8 x 11.

8-10" high would be fine for multies. The only reason mine use any vertical space is because I have a huge chunk of holey rock in the tank that a couple prefer over the shells.

You could go with a 33 long (48x12x12), a 40 long has same footprint but 16 high. Too much height I think would be wasted with just a multi tank.

My shell dwellers were in a 40g breeder, they rarely if ever went more than a foot away from the tank. If I ever get shell dwellers again they'll be going into a shallow long tank.

Exactly-- I'd rather make use of the space in the tank. I'd rather put something else in my taller tanks.
