View Full Version : Mixed Kelvin Question

For any of you who have mixed Kelvin lighting, I would appreciate some thoughts/feedback.

My additional light fixture with reflectors for my 120g arrives tomorrow or Friday. Currently, I have one fixture with 2 T5 54 watt 6K bulbs and reflectors. As am planning to make this tank heavily planted, I'm wondering if I should get two more 54 watt 6K bulbs, or get two 54 watt 10K bulbs to make the tank brighter, where brighter is more for me than the plants.

My summer project is to make this a very heavily planted tank, quasi- Dutch style if I have the cash and patience (patience being more limited than cash).

I'm running injected CO2 at about 30 ppm and dosing with dry ferts.

As the darned fixtures are of a proprietary size, the bulbs ain't cheap. 10K's will run me about 30 bucks a tube and the 6K about 40 bucks a tube.

What are your thoughts/suggestions?

I run a mix of 6400k and 10000k bulbs. I like the color and the plants do fine.
