White gunk on Co2 stone

As can be seen in this picture there is a bubbly, white something growing on the airstone that I use on my DIY Co2 generator. What is the stuff? Is it dangerous to the tank?

DIY CO2 reactors produce the stuff, just rinse it off. it will not hurt your stock.
