Just an FYI (that I didn't read perviously)

When cycling your tank using the shrimp peels in a stocking method please, please PLEASE get those babies down UNDER the water level with a rock or sinker or something.

DO NOT let it float on the surface and then go away for oh, let's say the Memorial Day weekend. You will come home to the most GAUDAWFUL smell in the world!!!

AWFUL!

Oh, but ammonia -0 nitrites -20 nitrates -20.

But was it worth it? The smell? - um, gotta say no.

Wow. That was a good heads-up! Or should I call this a fair warning? LOL

I remember well the smell of my trash when I lived in FL. Trash come twice a week and with so much shrimp, crab and lobster there, it should come daily!!!

So, where is your ammonia? Your tank should be high with ammonia right now.

ammonia at 0 or maybe 0.5 I'm guessing it spiked and we're hitting the nitrite spike now, I haven't check it yet today so I'll get on that during nap time.

I doubt you would have a cycled tank in one weekend.

Well, I put a dirty filter insert in the new filter before adding the peels to the new tank. Plus before we left we did a vacuum/water change of the big tank and put the first of the vacuumed up stuff into the new tank.

just tested

ammonia - 0
nitrite - .25
nitrate around 40

Looks good so far. My plants will be here on the 31st. Guess I'm in for a weekend fish hunting trip! :)

It's a 29 gallon. I'm thinking 3 gouramis? some rasboras or tetras (kerri tetras if I can find them) and 2 zebra loaches, maybe 2 oto cats or cory cats too?
