good substrate for loaches?

Would Seachem flourite be a good substrate to use with loaches (probably dwarf chain loaches)? I know corries need fine grained substrates to avoid damaging their barbels but was wondering if other bottom dwellers had similar requirements? I may be able to get the 'sand' version of flourite if this would be better.

My Pangio Oblonga's were/are absolutely fine on flourite. their along with my cories barbless are VERY long and multiple.

Im not sure on chain loaches but I know my yo-yo is doing just fine on aquariumplants.com substrate with big barbells.

The flourite is a little sharp, eco complete would be alot better to use for them sharpness wise.

OR flourites back onyx sand or the white sand they have.

IMHO if your main concern with the tank is the fish, always go with sand. All of my fish love it, not just the bottom feeders, everybody plays in it. If your more concerned about live plants, go with something like eco complete, the plants prefer it imo and wont uproot as easy.

Thanks guys. I want to give my fish the best home I can for them, but I also want to make the plants a real feature of this tank. So I think I'll be getting either eco complete or the sand version of flourite, whichever I can find around here.

I have corydoras on a blend of fluorite/eco and they have nice long healthy barbs. But if you wanted torpedo beach sand by caribsea is an excellent bottom dweller substrate. Plus plants like to root in it because it does not compact. You could put some peat/laterite under it and have a very nice planting medium.
