Is it normal for the nitrite levels to quickly spike down? I just cheked them a few days ago and they were at least 2ppm; I hadn't see them go down at all for about a week after they spiked up. Then, today, I check and there's 0 nitrites. is this normal?

Sounds like the biofilter caught up to the amount of nitrite that needed processed.

Okay... something just can't be right. I'm getting 0ppm of nitrate when just the other day it was at least 20ppm

Make sure you shake the reagents well and follow directions exactly.

I did it the same way I've done the 100s of times before. D: Could it possibly be a chemical or something that got in the tank?

Yesterday I accidentally got a *tiny* bit of hair conditioner in the tank through my hands. It was dried up on my hands and when I put my hands in the water my hands got wet and slimy, but I don't see how that could've done this?

Did you do a water change? Sounds very odd but one of my tanks nitrates dropped at the end of the cycle, as well. I found it odd myself.

Nitrites will also drop suddenly just when you think they will not move.

Glad to know I'm not the only one. No water change for a little less than a week, either. I think I'll wait a few days to add fish in case something happened...

Don't let your new bacteria starve!:help: Keep using fish food. Before adding your fish, check numbers (ammonia/nitrites 0; nitrates can be high. Then do a 90% water change and add the fish - your done; enjoy. :hmm3grin2orange:
