I have a 45gal "tall" tank w/ plenty of rocks and hiding spots and a few live plants. Right now I have a breeding pair of german rams, one keyhole, 4 ottos, and 6 kuhlis. Everyone gets along great, the rams get a little aggressive towards the keyhole when breeding, but he's got plenty of places he can go where they leave him alone. I know I cant have anymore rams, but is there anything else I can add? Maybe a krib?

You could try it. I dont think I would put any other cichlids in there though.

yea I wouldn't push it by adding another cichlid. Seems like a good mixture as it is, don't want to push your limits.

the only thing else I would put in that tank personally is a school of fish.

Yea, thats pretty much along the lines of what I was thinking. Im figuring either a school of rasboras or glass cats would round out the tank.

That sounds like a good idea to me. I think a group or harlequin rasboras would look nice in there. They're a mid to upper middle dweller so they should fill out the tank fairly nicely. Their red color will also "pop" when they're near the live plants since red and green are complementary colors.

Ill probably go that route. But just kicking around ideas, what about a school of glass cats? Any reason not too?

I found glass cats to be pretty boring. They just seem to stay in one place and not provide much excitement.

I agree with Flakes. The glass cats are pretty boring unless it's food time. Other than that, they just swim in a group in like one spot or against a current.

Yea i brought 1 glass cat cause my gal wanted it. Then i found out it needed schools. And i watched the school and decided to get rid of the glass cat...waste of space unless you really REALLY love them

Cool looking fish tho.

Wow somebody resurrected my dead thread :) Just to update this I ended up removing one of the rams, so I no longer have a pair. Im also pretty sure I lost 2 of the ottos during "otto acclimation" but the remaining 2 seem very happy. I added 1 geo, a school of 15 rasboras, a bn plec, and 3 yoyo loaches. The tank is now plenty busy but doesn't seemed overstocked and everyone gets along smashingly.
