I am looking at getting a CO2 system for my 50 gallon planted. The plants are doing ok but I would really like to get them to grow better, I am looking at a high presure system due to the size. I have checked local welding supply companys and the cost of a 5lb tank is a little high ($128). I was looking at a Red Sea system that uses paint ball co2 canisters. I have been unable to find any reviews of this product. Does anyone have any comments/advice.

Thanks,
Vern

A 128 dollars sounds a little high. Here is the best price on CO2 tanks that I have found online. you can get a 20 pound bottle shipped for $110.

I think shipping is about 10 to 15 dollars. So you could get a 5 lb bottle for 60 to 75 dollars.

The problem with paintball co2 rigs is that after the bottle they are not that much cheaper than corresponding big bottle rigs, and they have the have the hassle of running out more often.

I only checked this one site but there are others of course. It's said a 5 pound tank will last a year so you don't need one that's large.

Right. Why take up a bunch of room with a larger tank when a small one lasts nearly a year. Cheap to re-fill.

Check with your coke, pepsi or any of the beer supplies in you area. They may even sell some used.

personally I hope to run two to three tanks off of one bottle. So a larger one makes more sense.

Plus you save when you refill the tank. I know around here it roughly 15 dollars to fill a 5 gallon and 20 to fill a 10 gallon. You Get twice the amount of gas for only 4/3 the price.

beer distributors with kegs will have c02 bottles, usually 5 & 10 lbs. with a deposit, around my area it will run me about 60 bucks, then 12 to refill.
