Since puting a T-5 light on the hex doesnt make much sense, im gonna take the 2.5g out, get a small T-5 for it, heavily plant it with sand, and stick a betta in it.

As far of plants go, ive seen that cool plant that looks like underwater grass. what's it called?

Val? If it's Mondo Grass...don't use it...it rots...it's not fully aquatic...

Their are two that come to mind off the top of my head:

Dwarf hair grass (Eleocharis parvula)

Chain micro sword (Echinodorus tenellus)

Lovely! Now to try to find them around here!

Either good for low light?

From what I have read, Echinodorus tenellus should grow in a low light tank. I currently have some in a 30g with 42w of T-5 over it (you can check my blog to see pictures) and will have more on this subject in coming months.

As fate would have it, I actually have some of the dwarf hairgrass as well growing in my highlight 46g 192w tank. It also just went in, so I can't say much more about it, but I believe it is a high light plant.

Thanks hungryhound! I found my old canister filter for the 2.5g, so i just need the T-5, sand, plants, and the betta

The pygmy chain sword would be best as it spreads quickly. Dwarf hairgrass is a pain to get to spread a lot of times, even with a high tech tank.

Cocoa, keep in mind that T-5 is usually only worth it for larger tanks, where you can get multiple long tubes over the tank. For a 2.5g tank, you should just get a small screw in compact fluorescent or something.
