Ok someplace along the line I've managed to introduce 2 snails into my tank. I think it was probably way back on the first batch of plants since I was much less careful and the two I've seen were far too large for me to have introduced at the size they were spotted yesterday and this morning without me noticing. I say two, because I've seen just two and they have very different shell shapes.

One is just slightly smaller than a dime, and has a shell that looks like a ramshorn snail.

The other is about half that size but has a pointier shell like the apple snail pictures.

Are snails with two different snail shells the same type? or did I somehow manage to get two different types of snails in my tank?

I know that some snails are hermaphrodites and just need two snails to make population explosions, which I'm very much NOT interested in. But if its just one or two snails I'm much more ambivalent about their presence and would probably just leave them alone at least for now.

Yep, one looks like the top one, only with a brown shell.

And the other looks like the second picture only also in brown.

Yup you got ramshorns and pond snails.

Ramshorns are bigger and a little more to look at but they are essentially the same thing.

A pain in the butt!lol
If you have a well planted tank they can work in your favor. If you do not and you have no fish that will eat them(Some loaches are good) then they can really become an eye sore. They breed and over populate fast.Keep your feedings down to minimum and they will breed slower.
