View Full Version : Need Help Thinking...Another Tank?
...dunno what to do...
...I have 4 tanks right now...I'm enjoying them...not too much work for me to maintain...
...have been 'planning' that hypothetical 75g...but I'm worried that 5 tanks will end up being too much work...
Turns out that I can a buy a brand new 75g tank with lights for $180 and the stand would be about the same...don't like the colour of the stand...it's black and I wanted wood...but I like the style...and I don't like the fact that it's that cheap fake wood stuff...but until I can find someone to make me a solid wood stand (and who knows when that would be...I've been asking around for 6 months now - can't even get someone to give me a name)...it would certainly do the trick...
...so there you have it! I've been looking for used tanks since January too...and all I've found are 55g, like the one I bought for my goldfish...or 5' tanks which are too big for my space upstairs...plus I don't want a 90 g...those extra 15 gallons don't help much I figure...just makes the tank harder to clean because of the extra height...I'd take a 4' 120 gallon...since the extra volume in that case is worthwhile...but they're too expensive and I don't think I need the extra volume...

Check out fish tank stands at BigAl's. He has the only tank stands I've been able to find online that don't cost a fortune. And they come in different wood tones as well as black and only run about $89 for a stand for a 75 gallon. What I don't like is it cost $40 to ship one but even at $130 probably well worth it.
...problem is Big Al's is American...even if he ships to Canada...by the time I pay exchange and duty...it's almost double in CDN as it was in USD...although the looney is in good shape at the moment...

rue, isnt there a big als there? theres 2 stores in edmonton.
5 tanks shouldnt be much work. I can handle 10 with 1 being salt with ease.
BTW, how are your bettas?
Nope...no Big Al's...but I didn't know they had Canadian stores! Still...I'd have to drive to Edmonton...what I spend on gas, I may as well just spend on a tank here in the city...
...if I only had tanks as pets...I wouldn't be wondering about the workload...but I have the snake, birds, dogs, cats and horses too...
Mr. CT and the 2 girls are doing just well...I think I'll leave that group alone...
Mr. Plakat I, has passed away...and Mr. Plakat II is still living in the shipping container...but seems just fine...I'm making sure the water in the 25l is 100% before I put him in it...did a 50% yesterday...nitrates were about 40 ppm...

sorry about mr. plakat.
Theres a big als here and i saw one in vancouver. Aquatech is the best store though, dirt cheap prices, and over 800 tanks, and a 500g goldfish display and a 300g discus, and well as a ROCKIN planted 150g
I need prices C_P, prices...

What about garage sales? I 've seen people find great things at them. Or how 'bout buying a can of paint for the black stand? I got a 55 gal from e-bay with a black stand earlier this month that I'm still not sure if I like the black. Hubby said he's paint it if I ever decide I want him to. I do like to storage under the stand and the price was right. The 55 was an addition to 2 30 gal, a divided 10 gal for Bettas and 3 2+ gal Betta tanks. After the tank was set up and I was happy with the plants in all of them I don't think I spend that much more time on tank maintenance. And the room looks even better than I thought it would with the new tank in it.

My fellow Canuck, that would be $1.26 per litre, not gallon :ezpi_wink1:
Ever think of making one of your own? A lot cheaper, easier then you think and you can totally customize it ... thumbs2:
...*gasp* That's right! My bad! It makes it sound a lot worse too...
