I am using a desk light with a plant bulb on my 10 gallon. I woke up this morning to the stupid thing in my fish tank. The bulb end but not the base.
So.....who would like to be the one who comes over, plugs it in, and sees if it will knock you out?

just make sure it's reeeeeally dry before you plug it in... and on a circuit with a fuse/breaker. :hmm3grin2orange:

Stick it in the sun.Let the heat dry it out.
It should be safe to plug in after a day.lol
I think!:14:

do you have any circuits in your house where an electrical outlet is controlled by a light switch? That would be an ideal place to test it, on the offhand chance that there's a short, you wouldn't actually have to be touching the light or its cord when you test it out.

That's what it was plugged in and it never threw the circuit. Amazingly.

I had a light fall in my tank before. It didn't even blow out!lol
I unplugged it,dried it off and reset it.It worked great.
It did fall in again a month later and the bulbs shattered.:hmm3grin2orange:
I never did electricute a fish though.

I was telling Algenco once about a tank light falling in, turned on, and before I thought about it just reached in and pulled it out. Then he told me he had done the same thing! Guess we react too quickly at times.

My 10 gallon tank is under my 20 and I have one of those walmart hoods that only has the tiny little opening so I have to basically pick it up and wedge the whole thing into a gap in the stand for the 20 any time I need to reach my hand in there to do any work. I've had this hood fall in to the water many many times already, bulbs and all. Just recently, it went deep enough to short out a bulb. I'm honestly surprised this was the first time it happened. Luckily no fish were harmed or anything; if I remember right, it happened when the lights were off and must have done it when the timer turned them on later. Anyway, at least now I can stagger the replacement timing of my bulbs, so it's not all bad.

Mother called out, spooking me once while I was up on a ladder trying to re-adjust the hood on my tank. Accidentally dropped the (turned on) light fixture I'd been holding, WITH my other hand still in the tank. Instinctive reasoning threw me backwards, off the ladder, and against the far wall - animal part of my brain trying to get away from possible death. Was an interesting experience, to say the least. Wasn't aware I had moved until I actually got there.
In any case... yeah... Hobbs... you go ahead and plug it on. I'll stay up here. Far, far away. =P
Funny how our instints can lead us to do either the correct thing or the completely wrong thing...
Glad no one has been electricuted...I hear it's really no fun!

Animal part of my brain prevents me for even getting on a ladder. LOL Cute story.
I always drop the hoods in the tank, take it real fast and everything is fine. LOL
I shocked my self doing a water change trying to unplug a filter.

From Jeff Foxworthy, Redneck Tool Box is a roll of duct tape and a pile of coat hangers. :hmm3grin2orange:

Coat hangers are useful building materials!!! :)
You can plug the lamp into an extension cord, then plug the extension cord in... or use a power strip with a switch.

The switch is on top the light so easy to get to. Problem with this light is that the stem is not tall enough so I have to put it on something to reach over the tank.
This is my breeding tank altho there are plants in it for now or wouldn't need this dumb light at all.
