while i buy off the pieces of my dream tank for my betta, i want to think up some possible tank-mates for him. i've seen and heard people keep betta's with other fish that aren't in their compatibility zone, so i want to hear all of your stories!
he's going to be my centerpiece fish, and for now he's in a 10g set up by himself. so go ahead and throw your suggestions at me!
thanks!
oh, also - i made this thread a few days back and i'm still wondering about it: [Only Registered Users Can See Links.]

To minimize issues you should add the Betta after the other's have been in the tank for a bit. Betta are individuals, I've got one that kills ANYTHING you put in the tank with him but I also have another that's living with an RCS and 9 Swordtail fry without even glancing at them.
The personality of the Betta is going to determine just what you can house with it.

When someone keeps a fish with tankmates that "aren't in their compatibility zone", they're either very lucky or the situation is short-lived. Not something you should really look at as inspirational. You may know someone who smokes two packs of cigarettes a day and is in perfect health - would that cause you to think smoking is safe?
Anyhow, I don't know a lot about betta tankmates, they're a tricky combination of aggressive and fragile. I just wanted to warn you that just because you've heard of someone doing something crazy, doesn't mean it's a good idea.

i see what you mean.
would i have to remove him from the tank prior to buying the new fish? or would i just slowly acclimate him the same day i buy the fish?
and to add to the above posters post, i am completely aware of that, but i would rather test my luck than not try it at all. i don't plan on buying fish over 40$ to have them die to my betta or something.

Betta's are known as solitary fish other than at mating times. So often people think they need "company" when actually they are very happy alone.
