View Full Version : tiger barbs hovering at a 45 degree downward angle

Is this normal or not?

Several of mine do it. A few have died, and I'm trying to figure out if it's related. Someone suggested it may be a swim bladder problem either due to disease or genetic defect. I went to Petsmart, the only other fish store near here, and many of theirs were in that same downward posture.

If any of you have tiger barbs, can you please just chime in if yours sometimes hover at a downward angle when seemingly relaxing?

Thanks

like this ( / ) My TB's swam like that, it was funny but I think its just the way they are due to body shape. Ive always seen TB's swim like that.

I've heard that some pregnant fish act like that.

If they're only doing it for a few moments at a time, its called going "tail up" and its just a mating behavior/display. Normal for tigerbarbs.

Mine hung out like that all the time at rest.

Mine do it every evening/morning, hanging out in a group in the corner. I assume they're sleeping

OK. Thanks. I guess I can rule that out as a potential problem. Let's hope I don't lose any more.
