A reputable FW Fishkeeper Book says if you own a guinea pig, gerbil or rabbit you can use the droppings to feed your aquarium plants! Simply push 1 pellet below roots, repeat 3-6mos. Add a dose of a mild bactericide to prevent any infections arising. Could this be true? For what I spend on fert I need a dwarf hamster asap :)

I don't know the answer to that question, but my kids have been begging for a hamster ... if it works maybe it's a win/win!!!

Eww. :hmm3grin2orange:

I have 3 lop bunnies outside and their poop literally burns the grass,I forget who said it had way too much of something in it to be a good fertilizer.

I sure wouldn't put it in my tank. Guinea pigs...maybe?

Still wouldn't try. :hmm3grin2orange:

ammonia maybe, if its burning the grass thats usually high ammonia in the urine. I think they pee and poop at the same time, right? like birds.

If you have to use a bactericide, then IMO it's not even close to worth it. Dry ferts are cheap and easy to use. I personally wouldn't want to put rodent droppings in my tanks.
