It is sold by the litre over here in Australia, in the town I am in, the cheapest (regular unleaded) is AU$1.29 per litre, I will let you guys better at maths work that out LOL.
What amazes me is, Deisel, which takes a lot less refining, is the same price.

Super (which is called premium over here), is usually about 10c per litre more expensive than regular.
Do you know what 1,38 Euro converts to in Aus or US dollars?

If my calculations are correct, it comes in at US$4.88 per US Gallon over here. for regular. (I won't put it in the poll, in case my calculations are wrong)

Just wait until we go to war with Iran. It'll be $10 a gallon.

We're at around 4.85$/gallon around here. It's really funny here in Québec because the farther you get from the refineries, the cheaper the gas gets! Found out a little while ago that the more isolated regions get a break on the gas tax to compensate for transport costs, but it actually over compensates!
We also had a not so funny article in the newspaper a few weeks ago that said that the high gas prices were the fault on the environmental movement. Apparently there hasn't been a new refinery built in 30 years in North America. If you don't increase refining capacity and the demand continues to go up, gas prices rise.
It's a better reason that "The president of Iran farted, gas prices are going up.":hmm3grin2orange:

I agree completely. And putting most of our refineries right in the path of hurricanes in the gulf is stupid. Iran has been a threat for years and years and we should have broken their hold on the fuel reserves years ago and learned to survive without their oil. (Actually, not their oil but their canal.) The freighters come right thru the canal that's controlled by Iran. There is a pipeline we could use but for some reason have been reluntent to open it up.
My son told me last night he's building another new house. I told him to forget propane heat and go with electric with solar panels on the roof.

The oil Canada has is mostly High Sulfur Heavy Crude, the least desirable type, expensive to refine with a lot of pollutants.
If you check into it, I believe you will find that taxes are a major part in the difference in prices.

Taxes vary greatly from country to country for example, in Canada, on average we pay 40% taxes on a litre of fuel, while in Germany, you pay just over 70% taxes of a litre of fuel.
As far as Canadian gas goes, you are correct, it has a very high sulphur content and has been giving many car manufacturers in Canada a real headache because it's reaking havoc on vehicle emissions systems.
Anyway, fuel prices have gone up a good 40% since January where I live, right now we are paying 128.9 (CAN) for a litre of regular.
Interesting to note though, when the gas price goes up, it'll easily go up 5 cents per litre (if not more) overnight, but it takes weeks to come down just a couple of pennies. Hmmmmmm .... :ezpi_wink1:
