I'm new to the fishy keeping world and now have a 12 gallon freshwater that is currently cycling. If all goes well I would like to start a larger (55 gal) aquarium. If I do, I will use a cannister filter. Where does one house the cannister filter? In the stand under the tank?

yup! It sits under the tank, hopefully out of view. It will have two hoses (or more for the really big ones) that you run up behind the tank and hook over the side for the intake and output.

Thanks for the info, and I'm still reading as much as I can! Maybe some will sink in.

I house my filters under the stands. However, all my stands are wood stands with doors on them. Metal stands maybe a little different. What ever works best for you. Your the one that has to do the maintenance on them.

I have a 55 gallon with a fluval 405 canister filter. As other have said, it sits under the tank in the cabinet.

I below link will show you the manufacture’s instructions on how to set it up. It’s really easy, a lot easier than how they explained it in the instruction book. There’s also some videos on U-Tube as well.

You can house it anywhere, as long as it is close enough to the tank. I house mine under my tank, in the stand.

I run a Rena Xp3 on my 55gal and it is under the tank in a stand with doors. Maintenance is a piece of cake.
