Well I'm trying my hand at breeding since my pair are going nuts with laying eggs and I'm very quickly learning that how I'm doing things isnt working. Last night I moved 120 fry from the small wiggler tank to a 20long that already had fry in it. 10 days older so I figured that would be fine since they're pretty close in size. Nope. Woke up this morning and almost all of the younger fry are gone. I was livid... So my biggest issue seems to be tanks. (Since putting fry together that are 2 weeks apart is a bad thing.) I can fix that but I'm not sure what sizes to try to get. I've looked at a ton of set ups and not one is the same. So I'm curious what you guys use and what your setups are like?

Ok.. so right now my pair is in a 55 with the other angels and they're giving between 200-500 eggs every 14 days. I let the parents keep the eggs until they wiggle. (they do a better job of keeking them clean then I do) Then they get moved to a 2 gallon until they are free swimmers.
The 1st set got moved to a 20 long and there are about 100 of them. The 2nd set was the 120 that just got moved/eaten and I have a new set of wigglers in the 55 with mom and dad that got moved to the wiggler tank.
For now I'm sticking with just the one pair. I have an extra 10 and maybe a 40 I can swipe from my g/f's brother. I'm thinking the 40 would be good once they're dime(ish) size and I shouldn't have to worry too much about them eating each other. I'm thinking a couple 10's or 20's for the freeswimmers to grow out in. Would a 10 be large enough though??

So any thoughts or advise would be great...
Thanks all! :22:

they might not eat each other, but if crowded they will eat each others fins

:14: More tanks are needed!
It will help to keep less in each tank.

Oh I know I need more tanks (this is such an great excuse for MTS) but not sure what sizes I should plan on. if I should just get a bunch of 10's or a few 20's? I guess the better question probably would be how many fry could I put in a certain size tank depending on what stage there in? (free swimming, dime, nickle, quarter) I'm getting about 2-300 swimmers per batch of eggs and probably keeping 150-200 of those and I need to get them between nickle and quarter sized.

Thanks guys!

20 gallon longs that are divided half way with sponge filters on each side and 50% water changes every 2-3 days with aged water. I would have 4 of them if you can.
