How do I get rid of it?

its often from too much lighting and high nitrates. Do more water changes, and have the lights on for 8 hours max/day. Also, if its severe right now, have a 3 day blackout with no lights. no lights= no photosynthesis for algae= dead algae

It is infront of a window but the blinds are 90% of the time shut.
Also the light is maybe on for 4 hours a day max, and I clean it once ever 3 wks...

Get it away from the window. Is the tank planted? What color is it? Can you describe it?

The tank is a 5 gal waterhome, it is plexiglass I believe and it has live plants in it?

The window is the prime suspect!

I meant can you describe the algae? (ie slimy, green, brown, etc)
Get it away from the window and keep the tank lights on for about 8-9 hours each day.

I agree! I always kept my blinds closed and for a week thought I'd let more light in as I had a couple plants in the tank. It never got direct sunlight but even the direct light made a mess of my tank. I covered the end of my tank with black background paper.

I have been having an alge prob in my 120G, this weekend I was out a lot, so it got very little light, I noticed last night the alge had reduced a lot, so I am going to try less time with the tank lights on.
