I have been told when switching over all my fish to the new tank not to move the pleco right away as it will starve to death.
What if I were to feed him those algea disks?

The algae disks are pretty much hit and miss. I had one pleco that would touch the things, and my rubber lipped will latch onto them and drag them into a cave. See if he likes them in his original tank, and if so, add him to the new one along with an algae disk every day or two.

I never see him in the tank, always hiding in the log, ALWAYS

He's out and about at night. Make sure you feed him when you turn the lights out at night so the others aren't eating the pellets. Pleco's can get very large....some of them huge.

feed him at night. most plecos eat algae wafers. My old 33g had no algae buildup on the glass and my 3 plecos lived off of algae disks.

Actually, you should always consider your pleco as a part of your aquarium that needs to be fed regularly. Yes, they will eat the algae, and the old food they find on the bottom, but they are great little fish on their own and deserve to have some food just for them a few times a week too. That will also keep your pleco healthier and happier.
Plecos love algae disks and such...there are plenty of different "bottom feeder" foods available at your LFS. They also enjoy fresh vegs regularly, zucchini is a favorite of my plecos (my other fish love them too), most also like cucumber or dark green lettuces. Weigh it down with a spoon, rock, plant weight, whatever and watch your fish go nuts!
