Okay so I have a 38 Gallon tank.

4 Neon Tetras
4 Ghost shrimp
2 red tail rainbows
3 blueberry tetras
3 Red minor tetras
2 mystery snails
2 Amazon swords (plants)

Right now they seem happy with just tropical flakes but I am picking up 2 Discus today.

My plan:

40% water changes twice a week for 2-4 months.
Can anyone recommend a food for them? which will work well and the other fish wont nab on?

Should I get another plant?

Thanks.

Here is a video of my tank excluding the tetras, shrimp and red tail rainbows and plants.

You have a nice tank but its not for discus. They are extremely finicky fish. They need more space and perfect tankmates or they get stressed and sick.
Your tank is also not large enough.Sorry if its not what you want to here but it will hopefully save you some money time and heartache.
Here is some info that may help.

I was told by a few others with a 40 gallon you can actually healthily keep discus for years.

but since my tank already has other fish in it I would only want to get 2 of them.
And i understand clean water is an important factor. all my fish are small and shouldn't bug the discus either.

I would do the 5 day feedings as they are going to be about 3" each.

Thanks for the feedback, but I am wondering. What are the downsides of me putting discus in my tank right now.

EDIT: And these guys were breeders that really care about their fish.

Discus need an under stocked tank, minimum of 50 gallons.

I think the immediate problem for the discus would be your angel fish. Discus are very slow eaters and very shy and angels are probably one of the fastest.
