Just a quick question. I currently have 3 cories in my 20 gal. tank and plan on getting 2 more which is a good thing, I know. The only thing is they're all different colors. I don't know if this equates to different species/localities that shouldn't be schooling together? I currently have an emerald, albino, and spotted cory, and want to get a skunk and panda yet to add to the bunch. They all seem to be fine schooling together how they are now, but I didn't know if this was like buying 1 of each different kind of a schooling fish and throwing them in a tank together or something, because I suppose in that case they would all kind of school together too. Anybody know if this would be a problem or cause much stress to them?

They would probably be more secure with the same species. They are such gregarious fish that they will get along with other corys. Most places suggest atleast 3 of the same type.

There is nothing like watching a school of 6 or more dancing all over each other while moving up and down the glass and all over the tank. Its fun to watch.Thats the way I see mine act a lot of the time.
They won't do that when you 1 of each.

Hm yeah I was afraid of that. Maybe I'll just take back what I have and go 3 pandas 3 skunks or just go 6 of whatever I end up liking more. I'd hate to get rid of the little guys, I wish I had a bigger tank, but I've had my eye on the pandas and skunks for awhile

Sorry to hijack your thread, but I felt I should add this hear instead of making a new topic.

I am looking to add 12 corys to my 55G community aquarium. If I get 12 peppered corys will they stay together or break apart into groups? I ask this because if they will break apart, I would then add 6 peppered and 6 julies.

First, 12 Corys of a species is a very good thing for your 55. However, peppered Corys (Corydoras paleatus) are among the larger species of Cory, reaching a bit more than three inches. Something like panda corys (C. panda) would be a better choice in such a sized tank, since they top out at about an inch and three quarters.

Also, highly doubtful that those are C. julii at your shop, as 99 out of a hundred times it's the larger C. trilineatus for sale. If they were actually julie corys, you'd be paying a bundle each for them, since true julie corys are quite rare in the hobby.

Thanks for the info Dave. I will do a little more research on what Cory cats my LFS' have available. I have MANY LFS' in my area with a few great places that are not that far out of the way.

I am almost positive I can get 3 lined Corys. Seeing how they grow to bet 2"-2.5"s, I might not add 12, but I will get at least 6.
