fullgrown angels like about 15-20 gallons to each fish, a few plants, and for tankmates danios can get along with them, severums MOST of the time, Gouramis MOST of the time, corys, plecos, loaches, etc.
...not to say you don't know what you're doing with angels, cocoa! I guess when I think of angels I think of Lady Hobbs.

Thanks gm. LOL I hate to keep talking about angels but the subject continues to come up.
What is recommended with angels is to get 6 and when they pick a mate, to separate them into their own tank as a mating pair are pretty furious to all others in a tank. They need 10-15 gallons of water each. Others will eat the spawn, as well. Now we get into another problem as the spawn should be separated from the parents. So now we have the orginial tank with the other angels, the tank with the pair and another tank with the spawn. Angels will mate about every 3 weeks so this deal goes on and on and how many tanks can a person have and how many juvies do they want?
I was reading in the angel forum this morning this note from this lady that has 600 baby angels and she doesn't know what to do with them all and obviously has dozens of tanks. The biggest problem with cichlids is their constant spawning and the aggression when they do so.
You could buy six and chances are all six might be all one sex. There's no way to sex them prior to them mating which poses another problem. And you can't pair them up yourself as they pick their own partner. No mail-order brides will work for these guys.
I currently am housing 7 in a 55 gallon tank but this is only working for me right now as 6 of them are not yet mature. This combination will not work for long and I will have to start separating them.
I started with two and they got along very well together for a long time. Just like that (hobbs snaps fingers) the fighting started and I've had to keep these two separated for the last year or it just starts over. Both of these are females, too. One is an alpha female and mean as all get out. The other is just as sweet as can be.
I personally feel that to keep multiple angels that a person almost needs a 100 gallon tank so the others can have a spot of their own to get away from the agression that is sure to come. If you can not give them that much tank space, then get only one.
That post should be a sticky in the angel forum. Well said and very informative.

It doesn't take long for these fish to start with the sassy act. My juvies are beginning all this pushing around already and they're about 6 months old, is all. Everyone wants to be the boss. LOL

The minimum sized tank is a 30g. Each Angel needs at least 10g each, but 20g each is better.

I have 10 young ones in my 45g and I'm waiting for them to pair up. I already have a 15g tank all set up for mating and another 30g tank grow out tank just empty at the moment. I'm curious to see how many I can keep in my 45g without fights breaking out. I'm more curious to see them mate but I have few more months to go :18:

What are the chances of Angels fighting if you put two into a 55 gallon?

I have a 72 and I wouldn't put 2 angels in it. I wouldn't expect any random 2 angels to get along in heavily planted swimming pool:ezpi_wink1:
But if you do a LOT of plants and rocks and get VERY lucky with the fishes temperament it could work out.
Just start cycling a spare 30 gallon just in case!

They may be ok but if they do fight and one wants to be the dominate, the other will stay clear of the most aggression. If they mate, all others in the tank had better stay clear.

Thanks for the input you've probably saved my tank a lot of drama.
Is it ok to have one angel by itself or do they like company?

They are fine alone.
Right now I have 7 in my 55 gallon and will be going thru the same thing as you are. If you have more than one spawning at a time, you will be in for problems (as I will) and will need more than one grow out tank.
You need to use the 15 gallon for the grow out tank and the 30 for the mating, tho.
Here's something I wrote about the breeding.
Raising Angel Fry Away from the parents
It’s easier to place a mating pair in a 20-30 gallon (bare bottom) tank and remove the pair when they have spawned. But if not, you can move the eggs to another tank and leave the parents as they are.
Here are some steps to hatching them yourself...
You will need an air stone, heater, air pump & you will also need a "seeded" sponge filter.
Have a "bare bottom" (no gravel) tank prepared with treated tap water. Remove spawning material/eggs with some water from tank. Be sure not to expose to air. Slowly place spawn slate (or whatever the eggs were laid on) in corner of tank slanted as they were spawned. Make sure temp's are the same from tank just moved from. Preferably 80 -82 degrees). Place air stone 1 -2 inches from eggs so as to circulate oxygen over eggs. Add either methylene blue ( enough drops to turn water deep blue) or hydrogen peroxide (3%) - 1 capful per five gallons. as an anti-fungus agent.
To note: If eggs are left with parents, you do not do this as the parents will remove the fungus themselves.
Some eggs will turn white regardless...those are the unfertile eggs. On day two..your eggs will become wigglers. (you'll see tiny little tails from the eggs) Some may drop to the floor of tank. That is when you begin your water changes of 25% with treated water. Be careful to siphon water out slowly..and add same temp water back in. On day five - seven your wigglers should become free-swimming at which point you will need to feed them newly hatched baby brine shrimp. You will also need to start running your "seeded" sponge filter at that time. Keep doing daily water changes & wiping bottom of tank clean after each feeding 3 x a day. You can wipe down bottom with a scrunched paper towel...just go slow as to not get any fry.
If you have no slate for spawning, PVC slanted in the corners works well for them. Without it, they will spawn on the sides of the tank, uplift filter or on broad leafed plants making it harder to move the eggs.
Parents will spawn again in two to three weeks. J

I dont actually have any angels yet. I just wanted to know for the future when I have my aquarium set up. Because my girlfriend doesnt want to many aquariums in the house i dont think I will be breeding angels any time soon :brow34: I would like to have one in my tank however since they are such beautiful fish.

I have 3 young angels in a 30 gal tank. My excuse for getting a 55 gal tank was that I'll probably get a couple out of the 3 and will need to move 1 out. I'm stocking the 55 gal with angel friendly fish so I'll be ready :)
