I was reading Wikipedia's article on home aquaria today and found an interesting link in the process.
Apparently owners of decrepit old compact Macs like to recycle their machines into aquariums in the 2.5 to 5 gallon range, and the Apple website had an entire gallery devoted to some of the most notable ones.
There are tons of freshwater MacQuariums (including one owned by my favorite Time journalist, Joel Stein), at least one marine MacQuarium, and a Mac each devoted to hermit crabs and hamsters.
I don't even like Macs, but this is cool. Now I want one for my desk!

Their cute but not my thing.
I am glad they finally came up with flat screens so these big ugly monitors will soon be long gone.
I still have an older 17" screen on my antique that I keep in my shop.It take up as much room as my 20gallon.lol

I have a flatscreen monitor on my ancient desktop school computer, it was pretty much the dealbreaker. I couldn't deal with a monitor that protrudes ten inches out the back!

I love the cubequarium! My mother is still using a cube, I don't know if it's clear though. If it is, I am definitely going to snag is from her when it kicks the bucket. How cool!

Ha, wow that's the most realistic looking screen saver ever! Where did you get it?
I actually like the idea, though, it seems pretty cool. I'm sure you could make a nice sized tank out of the newer "gamer" desktop computers that are completely see-through. It would be cool if you could leave a lot of the computer-looking stuff in it like motherboards and graphics cards and the like without it being harmful to the fish. Make for an interesting conversation piece.

I was reading one of the Dr. Axel's Fish Atlas books at work the other night and they mentioned using extra panels of glass or plexiglass to enclose any decor that might be harmful to the tank. Maybe you could do something like that, just enclose all the wires and gadgets in plastic before you fill it up!

So Macs can be used for something other than doorstops and boat anchors? Wow.... :P
Actually, it's nothing new. There's many examples of this on the net. Old Macs, that funky plexi Mac case for the G whatever, regular PC CRT monitors have been turned into tanks. Some of them are really good examples of how not to do it.

Oh My. I don't care for those at all. Trying to get inside to do your cleaning would be a real trip.
I sure wouldn't trust that those little plastic legs could last for long, either.

I actually made one of these a few years back. Trust me, it is a LOT harder than it looks.. or maybe that was just me lol. Anyway, they are a pain to clean.. to move.. and the visibility is just from the front. After the novelty wore off (about two weeks) I moved my betta and junked the mac.

many years ago a friends brother gutted a 25 inch console tv sealed it all up with fiberglass and turned it into an aquarium... you'd go in the house and think you was watching jaques cousteau
