canister filters provide enough aeration unless youre severely overstocked

is your tank planted? if it is then a bubbler would not be suggested. if it isn't then i say get one, fish like to play in bubbles.

I prefer the bubbles simple because my fish like it. I like airstones instead of bubblers, tho. They're quieter, clog less often and are a finer spray.

Agreed. As long as your stocking is within acceptable limits you don't NEED one, but they are a nice aesthetic addition to the aquascape.

Usually, bubbles are optional. I don't use them because all my air pumps are 20 years old and make a ton of noise!

I use aerators on all of my tanks because the fish seem to enjoy the bubbles and I like how they look!

Position the spray bar (or outlet) of the canister so it breaks up the surface of the water and provides some agitation. Canister filters are the worst in terms of putting oxygen in the water, but 40g breeder tanks (assuming this is what you have) have a huge footprint for oxygen exchange with the water.

Yeah, those 40 breeders are long and deep. I wonder why they call them breeders? I mean, I assume they are designed for something specific, but why would breeding fish need that much extra space?

If its a breeder, they are long and deep (this is compared to a regular 40 gallon tank). I have a 40 gallon long and it is 4 feet long but not very tall.

By deep, we mean wide. Like, looking at the tank, it has a lot of depth. Not as in tall. 40g breeders have a large footprint, so there is a lot of surface area for oxygen exchange. You are fine. Just do the spray bar thing.

Probably better described indeed.
