View Full Version : MTS takes me down- again

05-18-2007, 08:17 PM

After the african tank, i told myself no more aquariums.
Now, after watching the betta in the 2g being bored, im slowly breaking down into getting him a 5g from wal-mart. If i do go, it'll be tonight.

It never stops.
At least i can get him plants, since he REALLY likes swimming in plants and a 2g can hold only so much

...I love my Petcetra tank...it's betta perfect!...

...how much are the Wally 5g tanks?

05-18-2007, 08:22 PM
wallys 5g's are about 30$.

That petcetera tank you got is 90$ here. WEM's petcetera is a JIP. The fish and equipment is ridiculously expensive, like a 8" bubble stip being 15$ and neons being 4$ each

05-18-2007, 08:27 PM
Yes...$30 is reasonable...the 10g at Petcetra is $40 I believe...that's what I have the puffers in...

...and I know I overpaid for this 25l tank...

...but I'm enjoying having it on my desk so much...it was definately worth overpaying for...

I also like the extra length...seems to be just right for the betta...the width is still fine as well...

It really is a cool tank, being so long. Imagine having one like that as a 20g with zebra danios running across your wall!

Its decided, mr. betta gets a heavily planted 5g tonight

05-18-2007, 11:52 PM
im going in a hour, and i'll be one tank richer and 30$ lighter

05-18-2007, 11:57 PM
I love a man who's made of money...:1luvu:

lol, thats a good one!

Wonder if he'd like a hex tank or square one. i'll have to go talk it over with mr. betta

The first person to guess which tank i bought gets 100 points- ( remember, i want to plant the tank, BIG hint )

tank 1- 5G, glass, incandescent hood, HOB, square
Tank 2- 5G, acrylic, Hex, HOB with bio-wheel, incandescent hood
tank 3- 5G, acrylic, bowfront, fluorescent light, HOB

05-19-2007, 03:17 AM
tank #3? I'm kind of a newbie so I don't know what HOB is but I'm gonna guess anyway.

05-19-2007, 03:19 AM

Since it was the only one with a fluorescent light, i took it. Its finally set up with a few plants

you get 100 points!

HOB is short for Hang On Back filter, like a aquaclear, whisper, or biowheel.

05-19-2007, 03:30 AM
Were they all the same price?

05-19-2007, 03:31 AM
You arent going to have any space left in your house.

05-19-2007, 03:48 AM
The incandescent glass one was $35, but it was incandescent and regular shape, the hex was 50$, but same incandescent issue, and the bow one was 54$. well worth it.

Ive still got room in my house though. all the tanks are in the basement, so the first level and upstairs are free. The reason no tanks are there is the rest of the house is Brazilian hardwood and the basement is carpet

05-19-2007, 03:54 AM
Thats good wood.

Walmart had a marine land 5 gallon with filter and light for 30 bucks. I kinda want it for a betta, but i kinda dont want to spend my money on it either.

05-19-2007, 03:59 AM
those marinelands are hard to find here, and theyre 80$ at petsmart. Its cool and all that they have a hidden bio-wheel, but for a tank that small, why not just skip the biowheel and get a cheaper one?

With the hardwood, i really bumbed up a part of it. I used to have a 20g hex in my upstairs room, and the 10g salt there, and a 2g hex, 1g, and the 33g in my living room, and about 6 10g's in the basement. The weight of the 33g left a imprint on the living room hardwood, and from there on i learnt my lesson.

Now i can actually get the betta tankmates. Hes pretty passive, so i think i'll try some shrimp and possible white clouds, and maybe pygmy cory's

05-19-2007, 05:18 AM
well, mr. betta is in his new home. Ive added so many plants that there shouldnt be a cycle on the tank. Hes pretty happy with the extra room.

Post a picture!

05-19-2007, 03:19 PM
give me 20 minutes...

05-19-2007, 04:39 PM
Here it is! This is just a starting pic. Im going later to get TONS more plants and maybe some corys. Ive had the mossball shown here for almost a year

He has LONG fins. My favorite betta!

05-19-2007, 04:45 PM

Have you had luck with the Acoris? Wasn't sure how it would do...

05-19-2007, 04:50 PM
yep. I originally had it with the africans, but theyre vegetarian so i gave it to the betta. It's growing pretty good. The betta likes weaving through it

05-20-2007, 12:56 AM
JEEZ, why must people put all of these temptations on me? i went to a garage sale, and theres a 25G hex tank for 50$ or best offer. I passed it up.

05-20-2007, 01:04 AM
Why??? Are you feeling sick??? Fever?

05-20-2007, 01:13 AM
I HAVE SOOOOOOOOOO many tanks already! i cant control myself! This is like AA! The first step is to say no, just like i did.

I think im gonna re-do the severum tank and go tomorrow and get more fish with him

05-20-2007, 01:22 AM
...if you do that...you'll need a bigger tank...

05-20-2007, 01:44 AM
lol, that sucks. Ive got good filtration and i do lots of water changes, so im gonna add a bunch of plants and i think i can add some fish to his tank

05-20-2007, 02:05 AM

I thought the first step to recovery was admitting you have a problem? Not that ive been through AA or anything...lol

05-20-2007, 02:24 AM
lol, i admitted it to myself LONG ago!

What size tank you have your severums in? I don't see that one listed. They're the reason I'll be getting a 75 but won't two 3 inch fish look silly in that big tank! sheesh

I was thinking of maybe a blue acara or festiums to go with them but I don't want to end up in a mess with fish that don't get along, either.

05-20-2007, 04:43 AM
I gave my severum to a friend who wanted him in his 55g with corys and a pleco. He had the WHOLE 33g to himself, since 2 need 55g, and it looked RIDICULOUS with one little scared fish in that size tank

I dont know why everyone lists that a pair of severums needs 55g to themselves. Thats a bit ridiculous. Im sure in a 55g you could pull off 10 neons and 4 corys with them

05-21-2007, 11:52 PM
Hubby now has a check list for when we have to take a fast trip out of town for a funeral. When we got to our hotel Friday night he realized he forgot his tie. We made a trip to Walmart and of course I couldn't leave without a walk thru the pet department.... We took home the same tank!

05-22-2007, 12:02 AM
No delete?

05-22-2007, 12:04 AM
LOL...yer all die-hards...

...however, I did a brief tank count today while I was tidying...

...in addition to the 4 fish tanks...

...I have 2- 10g housing my cockroaches...

...a 5g that doesn't hold water any more...

...an antique 2.5g that does (full metal frame - that how old it is)...

...and 2-20g tanks that used to house the lizards...

...a used, cracked, repaired (badly) 33g that houses the snake...

...and a brand new lid for a 10g - so I can make a quarantine/sick tank if I have to...

So that makes 11 tanks...

05-22-2007, 04:48 AM
Im gonna sell some of my empty tanks. Im gonna have a garage sale, so the 8G high and the bettas old 2g are going for sale. I might also sell the 10g acrylic, its really dirty but im sure i can clean it
