Just little annoying fish, in other words, to take a fishes mind off another one he may be pestering.

hmmmm, then my Mollies are "dither fishes" at least in the time while my Cichlids have fry, boy you should see big Papa Sajica or big Papa Meeki chasing them.:hmm3grin2orange:

But Mollies will never learn, the Cichlid turns his back on them, and it just starts all over again.
It really looks like as if the Mollies enjoy it.

My silver dollars do that to my angelfish. Angels chase them away, turn away and the dollars are right behind them again. Then sit in the middle of the tank and stare at the angels all day like they are just daring them to give chase again.

When fish that might be skittish see "dither fish" usually IME some type of smaller schooling fish out swimming happily they feel it is safe to come out because there aren't any predators around.

with skittish fish, people often use danios. If the skittish fish can see that the danios are not getting killed by predators, it shows the scared fish that things are fine out in the open and then the scared fish often will get used to the open.
