Yup, you need a tight fitting hood, because they WILL fly the coop.

He is an orange fire fish (Nemateleotris magnifica)

Very peaceful fish. Needs a tight fitting lid as they are known to jump. Do not have with members of the same species unless they are a mated pair.

Man, they DO jump!

i also got offered a big brown damsel, and ended up taking him too. The damsel came out of the LR, and the fire fish flipped out, and i had the hood off for a sec, and the fire fish jumped 1 foot out of the tank, and landed safely in the water. the hood is TIGHTLY on now for good!

what size tank are they in?

you should isolate and get rid of the damsel immediately. fire fish should pnly be kept with passive fish.

no prob. I'll go give back the damsel.

Often when people want to give you a fish it's because they don 't want it for a reason. Like it's mean, doesn't go well with anything or is just a pain. Not all gifts are good gifts. :)

True. The guy who gave me the severum because he took suck crap care of it really took bad care of him and he had HITH which i didnt notice before. Within 7 days of being in my tank, the severum has no hith left, and i used no meds at all.

Saltwater bettas look really cool. I remember a LFS had a actual lionfish for sale, and that fish gave me a glare every time i looked at it. For now, the fire fish gives me enough color.

Thats a scary idea!

Apparently the fire fish only accept brine shrimp, but mine is taking anything

brine shrimp isn't very nutritious. you should offer him frozen (then thawed) mysis shrimp, marine flakes and marine pellets.

You can also buy live copepods from HERE (http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=2593) and should give him something to chase throughout the day.

thanks for the info! I got him some really good marine pellets that he likes. I'll look into those copepods
