Iím starting to feel like I have the pickiest fish to feed.

Iíve been feeding my two plecos in my 55 gallon two different types of algae wafers every second day and cucumber every third or second day. I had to place the cucumber in the tank daily for about two weeks before the plecos figured out it was food. One of them seams to really like it and the second only nibbles. At the time I was always placing the cucumber in the same spot in the tank without realizing this. Over time, I believe the plecos learned to go to that spot when they are hungry.

I never stopped to think about that until I started to wonder why they werenít eating any of the pellets. They have never showed any signs of not getting enough to eat, I was just concerned there diet wasnít healthy enough. I was also concerned the uneaten food would miss up the water parameters so my wife or I would also spend time finding and removing the uneaten food in the morning. I then started to place the pellets next to were I place the cucumber hopping they would eat more of them. As I watched them come up to the pellets, they would eat on them for a while and then move on to other pleco business. But in the process they would send the pellets across the substraight as swim away.

I then though of making some type of food bowel (for a lack of a better term), to try to keep the food in one spot as these guys swim across it. I took 5 flat rocks, glued them together with some aquarium glue and placed in the tank. I used the largest rock for the bottom and glued 4 rocks on top of that to form a bowel. To make sure I get the food in there food bowel, I place a ĹĒ peace of PVC pipe in the bowl so I just place the food in the other end and hit the spot every time.

Iíve been trying this for over a week now and Iíve noticed they are eating all the food now.

This might not a much of a new idea for most, but I thought I would share my success

That was a creative idea.

If they don't have caved in bellies and as long as you are offering food, don't worry about them not eating enough. Some fish like to feast, while others are like toddlers and like to nibble.

You can't go wrong with offering veggies, so maybe cukes are just not a favorite for the second one. You could always try something like sweet potato or melon, however, don't leave those in the tank for long periods as they have lots of natural sugar in them.

Thanks Zilla

I think my guys are nibblers just as you suggested. They have little pot bellies so it looks like they are getting enough. I just want to make sure they are getting a good enough diet with everything they need.

Iíve tried a lot of different veggies and fruit (fresh, canned, and blanched ) but they seam to like the cucumber the best. I never did think of sweet potatoes, so Iíll give that a try and see what they think of it.
